Hey friend, I’m DeMarcus! I created The Solo Solstice because I was eager to share my honest, first-hand travel advice with like-minded people. Y’know, the kinds of people who like to explore freely, affordably, and responsibly.

I took my first solo trip (read about that experience here) to Miami in December 2025 and, not to be dramatic, it changed my life. I’m now committed to being, what I like to call, a global solitude-seeker: someone who seeks solitude through travel experiences around the globe. 

I’m traveling not only to see what’s out there or to educate myself, but to also strengthen and nurture my soul. I strongly believe traveling is one of the best, most life-altering things you can do to become a more well-rounded human.

But here’s the thing: traveling is a privilege. Not everyone has infinite time, money or friends to travel. For that reason, The Solo Solstice is built specifically for the everyday person with a 9-5, school and other responsibilites. Because even though you’ve got real-life things to deal with, you can totally still see the world without breaking the bank or waiting on other people to finally “be ready.”

If you like solo travel, you’re in the right place! The Solo Solstice is all about community, which I believe is vital for us solo travelers. Throughout the website, you’ll find all sorts of collaborative spaces, from comments on blogposts to a growing Facebook Group. I think it’s important for us to have a space to share our stories and learn from each other’s lessons. That’s one of the best ways to grow, is it not?
